Leadership Coaching for People Building What Matters

The Generative Commons coaching practice is led by Lauren Gepford.

After fifteen years running political and civic organizations, I now coach the leaders who are building them — helping them lead teams, navigate growth, and build work that lasts beyond a single campaign or moment.

Many leaders in social good, innovation, political, and nonprofit work carry enormous responsibility.

They are making decisions that affect teams, organizations, and communities — often in environments where the pace is fast and the pressure is constant.

Coaching provides a place to step back, think clearly, and strengthen how you lead.

I partner with leaders across campaigns, nonprofits, and civic organizations who want to:

  • navigate transition or growth in their role

  • lead teams more effectively

  • make difficult decisions with clarity

  • successfully build and scale organizations and programs

My coaching draws on fifteen years of state and national leadership experience in the political and nonprofit sector, alongside professional coach training through the Academy for Coaching Excellence, an ICF Level-2 accredited program.

What Coaching Is (and Isn’t)

Coaching is a collaborative process that supports you to:

  • Clarify what actually matters to you now.

  • See patterns and assumptions that may no longer serve you.

  • Make grounded decisions aligned with your values and intentions.

  • Take authentic action with more ease, confidence, and follow-through.

Coach is Action-Oriented: Coaching isn’t just insight — it’s practice. You’ll leave each session with a clear, realistic next step that aligns with what matters most to you. Progress comes from doing what you say you’ll do, consistently, with clarity, focus, ease, and grace.

Coaching is Confidential: Coaching is 100% confidential, including the existence of a coaching relationship at all, unless client’s provide permission.

Coaching is Not: Psychotherapy, counseling, or medical care, and it is not a substitute for mental health treatment, legal advice, consulting, or financial advising.

Who Coaching May Support

I work especially well with people who:

  • Carry responsibility and decision-making weight

  • Have outgrown an old definition of success

  • Feel stretched, stuck, or uncertain despite being capable

  • Want to lead, create, or contribute without burning out

  • Are ready to be honest with themselves and take action

Coaching topics often include:

  • Leadership and professional transitions

  • Starting a new program, creative pursuit, or life chapter

  • Decision-making and discernment

  • Boundaries, capacity, and sustainability

  • Creative or mission-driven work

  • Personal growth that impacts how you show up everywhere

Nothing is “too small” or “too big” to bring into a session.
